On 12-13 June, prior to the ITF Plenary Meetings in Jerusalem, 200 world-renowned scholars, philosophers and leaders from some 40 countries will come together at Yad Vashem for the Seventh International Conference on Holocaust Education.
Entitled "Shoah Education and Remembrance in Hindsight and in Foresight," the conference is geared towards educational policy makers as well as participants attending the Plenary Sessions.
As Chair of the ITF since March 2010, the Israeli delegation has already begun to work closely with decision makers, leading specialists in Holocaust education and scholars to promote the study of the Shoah and its meaning worldwide. Yad Vashem's international conference, organized under the auspices of the ITF, is thus geared for decision makers in the field of education and culture - specifically but not limited to members of ITF delegations - in an effort to gain a deeper perspective on the current challenges of historical memory.
Speakers at the Conference will include Yad Vashem Chairman Avner Shalev and Israel's Minister of Education Gideon Sa'ar, Professor Dina Porat, Holocaust Survivors Dr. Yitzchak Arad, Roman Frister, Rabbi Israel Meir Lau and Dr. Samuel Pisar. A panel discussion comprising of Dr. Leonidas Donskis, Member of the European Parliament, Aleksander Kwasniewski, Former President of Poland, and Stjepan Mesic, Former President of Croatia will close the conference. Professor Alain Finkielkraut and Professor Yehuda Bauer will honor the participants with keynote lectures, and moderated groups will meet in order to make recommendations, to be discussed by the various Working Groups.
