Righteous Among the Nations

On 6 May 2016, a commemorative event dedicated to the Queen Mother Elena of Romania, who was awarded with the title of righteous among nations for saving thousands of Jews during WWII, took place at the Choral Temple in Bucharest.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the representatives of the former Royal House of Romania, HRH and Crown Custodian Princess Margareta, HRH Prince Radu of Romania, HRH Princess Elena of Romania, HRH Princess Maria of Romania. The event, which also marked 120 years since the birth of Queen Mother Helen, coincided with the events marking 150 since the monarchy was founded in Romania.

The Queen Mother Elena received  the title righteous among nations post-humously in 1993 for her acts of courage in saving the Jews during the Holocaust, especially for her countless pleas between 1943-1944 to allow the deported Jews to return from Transnistria.

The event was covered in the national media, on TVR and Radio România Actualit??i as well as in the Agerpres and Mediafax.
