On 8 July, the IHRA Chair visited the “Dokumentations- und Kulturzentrum Deutscher Sinti und Roma”. He was accompanied by his assistant, Mr. Romain Butti, and received by Romani Rose, the President of the Zentralrat der deutschen Sinti und Roma, Jacques Delfeld, Vice-president of the Zentralrat, Oliver von Mengersen, Chair of the IHRA Committee on the genocide of the Roma, and experts working in the Center.
They had a lengthy and friendly exchange of views and many subjects were discussed in a spirit of increasing cooperation: preservation of sites, the mission of IHRA and its achievements, and the general situation of the Roma communities in Europe.
The Chair was briefed on the detailed program of the commemorative ceremonies that will be held in Krakow on 1st July and especially on 2nd August in Auschwitz-Birkenau. The IHRA Chair was invited to deliver a speech at the central ceremony in the extermination camp.
Ambassador Santer confirmed his willingness to show the Roma exhibition “Racial diagnosis: Gypsy” at the Luxembourg City Plenary of the IHRA that will be held from 2-5 December 2019.
