The national Norwegian ceremony commemorating The International Holocaust Remembrance Day will take place at the memorial to the deported Jews at Akershus Quai, located close to Pier 1, where the ship DS Donau docked and was loaded with it's human cargo.
Prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre will give the main speech on behalf of the Norwegian government, and the Mayor of Oslo, Marianne Borgen will also participate.There will be speeches for the victim groups, the Jewish community in Norway, the Roma people and the political prisoners. Texts about deported Jews from Norway will be read by young Jews. The commemorative ceremony at Akershus Quai will be concluded with the prayer El Maleh Rachamim by the cantor in the Jewish Community in Oslo.
The commemoration is arranged by the Norwegian Center for Holocaust and Minority Studies, and the Center's director Guri Hjeltnes will lead the ceremony.
After the open air ceremony, warm soup will be served at Akershus Fortress. Historian Terje Emberland will give an introduction to Jewish resistance and Jewish antifascism, and the musician Knut Reiersrud will play.
