In 2021, the Falstad center marked Holocaust memorial day with a digital commemoration event, streamed from the courtyard of the former SS Strafgefangenenlager Falstad. The low key commemoration event focused on showing 773 lit candles. One candle for each deported Jew in Norway: one for each of the 180 children and youth, 555 for all women and men, and 38 candles for the ones that survived the deportation.
About 50 of the deported 773 Jews in Norway were prisoners at Falstad, and 8 Jewish men were executed in the nearby Falstad forest in 1942. The courtyard where the 773 candles were lit in 2021 was in 1942 the location of brutal treatment of all Jewish prisoners.
