On the 27th of January the Danish Jewish Museum and the Municipality of Copenhagen mark the International Holocaust Remembrance Day 2023. In Denmark this commemoration is referred to Auschwitz-day, where Denmark remember the victims of Holocaust and other Genocides. The event will take place at The Black Diamond, the buildings of the Royal Danish Library on Slotsholmen and is open to all.
This year’s program will include speeches by the Danish Minister for Culture, Jakob Engel-Schmidt, ambassadors from Sweden and The United States of America, historian Simon Kratholm Ankjærgaard as well as music and a memorial ceremony.
This year Auschwitz Day will also mark the beginning of the 80th year since the rescue of Danish Jews during the Second World War in October 1943. Throughout 2023 there will be several commemorative events around the country marking the 80th year.
