The Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, the Embassy of Israel and the Embassy of Slovakia in Sofia will hold a joint event to commemorate 27 January. The occasion will also mark Bulgaria’s recent accession as full member to the IHRA. It will include screening of the Slovak movie “Nicky’s Family” dedicated to the rescue of hundreds of Jewish and non-Jewish children from Czechoslovakia on the eve of WWII. The Slovak Embassy will present a text book showcasing the story, with a special focus on the importance of education in combating antisemitism and hate speech. The exhibition “Beyond Duty: Diplomats Recognized as Righteous Among the Nations” by the Israeli Foreign Ministry (research and curation by Yad Vashem) will be also featured at the event which will gather representatives of state institutions, academia, civil society organizations and diplomats.
